National Lottery Community Fund - Leaders with Lived Experience

BAC-IN Project Inpowerment 2019-2021

In June 2019 BAC-IN received funding from Leaders with Lived Experience Pilot Programme to deliver BAC-IN Project Inpowerment.

The grant is part of The National Lottery Community Fund’s £800,000 Lived Experience Leaders Pilot  Programme, an initiative which aims to better embed ‘experts by experience’ in all aspects of an organisation’s operations – and enable the Fund and the wider sector to continue testing and learning about how people with first-hand experience can become leaders and how funders can support them.   This pilot programme, which was developed through workshops across the UK involving more than 70 lived experience leaders, is a core part of The National Lottery Community Fund’s ‘people in the lead’ strategy.

People with lived experience are given an opportunity to do volunteer work at BAC-IN after completing their recovery programme.  They undergo skills training i.e. mentoring, advocacy and facilitating mutual aid support groups and are encouraged and supported to progress into paid roles within BAC-IN or other similar organisations. We aim to raise awareness of cultural issues and culturally responsive solutions for BAME people with lived experience, working with partners and commissioners to promote the ‘leaders with lived experience’ agenda.

A Team Leader has been appointed who has specific responsibility for supporting, training and developing peers and volunteers – all people with lived experience – towards paid roles. The Team leader has lived experience and will deliver BAC-IN Project Inpowerment to;

Support, develop and train volunteers with lived experience into leadership roles.  This process will include:

        * Mentoring, recovery coaching and organisational development training

        * Linking with other projects funded by this programme

        * Employability training, getting volunteer leaders prepared/ready for employment

This project will take place in Nottingham, supporting people from Nottingham and Nottinghamshire from our main office on Huntingdon Street in the centre of Nottingham.
